Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
League Countries Arab will hold an emergency meeting today, Wednesday (5/4), following the police attack Israel the Masjid Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.
As reported by Reuters, the meeting was held after Jordan called for a meeting in coordination with Egyptian and Palestinian officials. However, it is not yet known where the leaders will hold the meeting.
This meeting itself was carried out after the Israeli police reportedly launched an attack on dozens of Muslim residents who were worshiping at the Al Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday morning local time.
The action left seven Palestinians injured by rubber bullets and beaten by Israeli police, according to a medical officer from the Palestinian Red Cross.
One Palestinian woman who declined to be named said the police threw stun grenades at the worshippers, one of which hit her.
“I was sitting in a chair reading [Al Quran]. They then threw stun grenades, one of which hit me in the chest,” the woman said, panting.
The incident inevitably sparked protests in the West Bank. The Palestinian group that rules the Gaza Strip, Hamas, immediately launched a rocket attack on Israel.
Not remaining silent, Israel responded with airstrikes. This reciprocal action also made the two sides even hotter and made the scale of the protests even more out of control.
Israeli police claim they were forced into the mosque after masked provocateurs locked themselves inside the mosque with fireworks, sticks and stones.
According to police information, they were pelted with stones and firecrackers when they tried to arrest the provocateurs.
