Calls on the Security Council to “impose” an immediate truce
MADRID, 4 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abul Gheit, denounced this Saturday the “war of extermination and ethnic cleansing” represented by the military offensive launched by the Israeli Armed Forces on the Gaza Strip. He has also urged the UN Security Council to “impose” a truce.
“It is a war of extermination and ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians,” Abul Gheit said in an official statement.
In particular, he has criticized the lack of drinking water for the population. “The majority of the population lives with one liter of water for all their needs. People drink from unhygienic wells because they need about 140 liters on average,” she highlighted.
Gheit has also warned that most desalination plants have stopped operating due to lack of fuel. “This situation causes a major health crisis and increases the possibilities of transmission of infectious diseases, aggravated by the closure of several hospitals and health centers. We are witnessing the collapse of the health sector in Gaza,” said Abul Gheit.
The head of the Arab League has lamented that “not even ambulances are spared from the attacks of the Israeli occupation in flagrant violation of the most basic laws of war”, in reference to the death of 15 people due to the bombing of a convoy. of ambulances on Friday in which 15 people died.
IMMEDIATE TRUCE
Abul Gheit has therefore called on the member states of the UN Security Council to “work to stop the aggression immediately and impose a humanitarian truce so that the goods necessary to save hundreds of thousands of people can enter.” “Hunger is an imminent possibility, particularly since 1.2 million people in Gaza already suffer from it,” he added.
“Gaza needs the imposition of a humanitarian truce to save civilians from the hell of battles and the imminent risk of famine” that adds to the hardships caused by “17 years of siege,” he highlighted.
Abul Gheit has recognized the importance of the trucks entering from Egypt with aid, but recalled that “it is still very far from what is needed to avoid a humanitarian crisis.” In addition, he has warned that it is “enormously difficult” to distribute aid.
