An emergency meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, convened in connection with the war between Israel and Hamas, is taking place in Riyadh on Saturday.
Saudi Arabia “affirms – it believes that [izraēliešu] the occupation authorities are responsible for the crimes committed against the Palestinian people,” Saudi Arabia’s crown prince and “de facto” ruler, Mohammed bin Salman, said at the start of the summit.
“We are convinced that the only way to guarantee peace, security and stability is to put an end to the occupation, siege and settler settlements,” he said, referring to Israel’s policy towards the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, on his first visit to Saudi Arabia since Riyadh and Tehran restored ties in March, said Muslim countries should recognize Israel’s army as a “terrorist organization” for what it has done in the Gaza Strip.
“It is shameful that Western countries, which always talk about human rights and freedoms, are silent in the face of the massacres taking place in Palestine,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said at the summit.
In turn, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas stated that Washington has “the greatest influence on Israel” and is “responsible for [šim konfliktam] there is no political solution’.
