Cairo, Oct 25 (EFE) .- The Arab League on Monday expressed its concern about the events in Sudan, where in the last hours a group of soldiers has arrested the Prime Minister, Abdullah Hamdok, and other civilian political representatives, after tensions within the democratic transition bodies.

The Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abulgueit, expressed in a statement his “deep concern” and asked all parties to respect the constitutional document signed in August 2019 by the military and civilians to share power during the transitional period after the overthrow of dictator Omar al Bashir in April of that year.

Abulgueit recalled that “there are no problems that can be resolved without dialogue”, after weeks of tensions and cross accusations between the civilian and military components of the Sudanese government bodies, after a coup attempt last month that was aborted by the Army.

In the note, the secretary general of the body of which Sudan is a member stated that “it is important to respect all the decisions and agreements agreed with respect to the transition period (…) and to refrain from any of the measures that interrupt the transition period. or shake stability in Sudan. “

The Sudanese Ministry of Information reported earlier today that the head of the Government had been arrested and his whereabouts are unknown, as well as other ministers and civilian members of the Sovereign Council, the highest body of power in the transition process who currently preside over the uniformed.
