Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, denouncing what was raised about discussing the future of the Strip after the end of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The Saudi Foreign Minister was responding to a journalist’s question during a conference on the sidelines of the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, on Saturday, which was held to discuss developments in the ongoing Israeli war in Gaza.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan said: “What future am I talking about when Gaza is being destroyed. Every hour dozens die,” and asked: “What future do they want us to talk about?”

He added, according to a video clip published by the official Saudi Al-Ikhbariya channel: “The only future, and this is a unified position of the Arab and Islamic countries, what we are talking about is an immediate ceasefire…that is all we are talking about.”

The final statement issued by the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, on Saturday, called for an end to what it described as the Israeli aggression against Gaza, as well as “war crimes and barbaric, brutal and inhumane massacres.”

The summit statement refused to describe this “retaliatory war as self-defense,” demanding an end to the blockade on Gaza and the immediate entry of humanitarian aid convoys, including food, medicine and fuel. The statement stressed the need for the Security Council to take a “decisive and binding decision” that imposes an end to the aggression.

The statement called on the International Criminal Court to investigate what it described as war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel against the Palestinian people in all the occupied Palestinian territories, according to the statement.
