Arab and Islamic Summits in Saudi Arabia to Discuss Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

This weekend, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hosting two summits of Arab and Islamic countries to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

An emergency summit of Arab League leaders regarding the war between Israel and Hamas is scheduled to be held in the Saudi capital, on Saturday.

The next day, an “extraordinary” summit will be held, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which includes 57 Muslim-majority countries and is headquartered in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah.

So far, it has been confirmed that a group of leaders and heads of Arab and Islamic countries will participate in the two summits, while other countries have decided to send representatives of their leaders.

The official Qatar News Agency announced that the Emir of the country, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in Riyadh on Friday to participate in the extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the summit level, and the extraordinary Islamic summit.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad also arrived in the Saudi capital on Friday evening to participate in the emergency Arab summit, according to the official Syrian news agency.

The official Saudi Press Agency reported that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Riyadh to participate in the Arab Summit and the Extraordinary Islamic Summit.

In turn, the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Department said that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will go to Saudi Arabia on Saturday to participate in the extraordinary Islamic summit to discuss developments in the situation in Gaza.

The Etemad Online news website reported that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will travel to Saudi Arabia on Sunday to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit.

This will be Raisi’s first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia since Tehran and Riyadh agreed, under the auspices of China, to resume relations between them and reopen the headquarters of diplomatic missions in the two countries after a seven-year rupture.

On the other hand, Bahrain announced that Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa would represent the country in the Arab and Islamic summits, and Kuwait did the same when it announced that its representative would be Crown Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Oman announced that Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi will head the country’s delegation participating in the Extraordinary Arab Summit and the Extraordinary Islamic Summit.

Morocco also chose to participate in the two summits with a high-level delegation led by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch.

The head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed Al-Menfi, is scheduled to participate in the Arab and Islamic summits.
