“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” I found myself with foulbrood from the very beginning – today the embargo on the free distribution of reviews was officially lifted. And the superhero sequel was covered by a wave of criticism – so far on the website Rotten Tomatoes, with 72 published reviews, the approval level is quite low – 39%. There is a slight upward trend – in the early stages it was 36%.
Top critics have it even worse – 27%.
There is no consensus, but there are absolutely terrible opinions, they say, nothing works well in this film, including special effects, plot and emotional core. Everything has long been distorted by other superhero productions. Many people also note that there is no intelligible ending either, but it would not hurt, considering that there will be no more films in this universe.
Jason Momoa, who plays his crazy character from “Fast and the Furious” but in a superhero style, is praised for his geekiness. They say that the movie is suitable for watching with the whole family, they say that the aesthetics of a Sunday cartoon are fully respected. And Patrick Wilson looks great paired with the protagonist.
In short, there was no masterpiece here. But the studio’s complete indifference to its product is very noticeable. Some aspects related to the director’s vision and actor’s charisma work, but everything else – not so much.
