APU “landed” a rare spy drone “Cartographer” with 12 cameras: why is it dangerous (photo)

The drone was designed specifically for the needs of the FSB, it is intended for reconnaissance and mapping.

The Ukrainian military shot down a Russian drone “Kartograf”, which is used by the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation. Details and footage published in Facebook press service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Servicemen of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine hit a Russian drone while performing one of the combat missions. According to an officer of the intelligence unit, the downed aircraft was identified as a secret reconnaissance drone “Kartograph”, which in Russia was developed specifically for the FSB and used during military operations in the most important areas.

“Our paratroopers landed this committee bird forever. It should be noted that the Ukrainian landing units have already shot down more than fifty Russian UAVs of various types,” the Armed Forces of Ukraine stressed.



Outwardly, the Cartographer is similar to the Russian Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAV, but differs in a blue body color and a more technologically advanced optical system with 12 lenses that provide very detailed aerial photography. The technical characteristics of the Cartographer are kept secret by the Russians, but it is known that they are manufactured by the Ptero company. As the name suggests, it conducts reconnaissance and takes pictures to map the area.

Earlier they wrote that in August the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a secret Russian drone “Cartographer” in the southeast direction. Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners successfully shot back, and also hit one Orlan-10.

In October, it became known that Russia was using foreign-made components to assemble the Cartographer. Experts studied the downed spy device and found parts from Germany, China and Japan.
