Be a little humble, because not many people voted for your ideas. We did not vote or so by reflex, by spite, by republican front, by fear that it will be worse, by anger. But you will have to find them, those who voted for you and what you are wearing.
President, we have no hope for what you’re about to do. The only thing we can expect from you is that you don’t prohibit abortion or homosexuality. Don’t poison your opponents, stick to tonfa. But it is a very sad hope.
President, we don’t expect you to stand up on our behalf to end ecocide, or kill patriarchy and state racism. We don’t expect you to start a social revolution. We just hope you’re not the one arming militias.
President, we don’t wait for you to go into politics, and the hope that we don’t put in you we cultivate as much as we can on a daily basis. It is grown in the ZAD, in demonstrations, in village bread ovens, in support networks. We cultivate it in our collectives where we try to take into account issues of power and gender. We shout it in demonstrations and on social networks. Hope is cultivated when Monsanto’s gates are down, when the diggers of large useless construction sites are burning, when there are barbecues on the roundabouts, when we get up and break from a dusty festival that rewards attackers. Hope, we cultivate it in our chosen mixed groups, we cultivate it when a call circulates on social networks to resist an eviction in Calais, when solidarity brigades are created in all cities, when we knit socks for those who cross the border in the Alps, hope is built in collective farms in the countryside, which provide the struggles with onions and potatoes. In market garden wastelands that have become ZAD in town who water the strike pickets with leeks. We cultivate our ideas in great books, in fiery leaflets and websites that tell other stories: those of our struggles here and elsewhere.
So at the beginning of April, the question is not for or against the vote, for whom to vote, for whom not to vote. That’s a personal choice. We do what we can, with our backgrounds, our beliefs, our convictions and our rights.
The question is that you, President, are not expected to play politics. Before, after, during, what we believe in is in struggles and self-organization !
