Due to Russia’s military invasion, Ukraine’s gross domestic product (GDP) will shrink by almost half this year (by 45.1%), but due to Western sanctions, GDP is also expected to fall in Russia, according to World Bank forecasts released on Sunday.
In January, when the invasion of Russian troops had not yet begun, Ukraine was forecast to grow by 3% of GDP this year.
In Russia, on the other hand, according to the latest estimates, GDP is forecast to contract by 11.2% this year, indicating that the decline will be mainly caused by Western sanctions.
In January, the World Bank forecast that Russia’s GDP would grow by 2.4% this year.

For the first time in several weeks, a change of on-call staff has taken place at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, CNN reports. This is the second time the station has been changed.
The International Atomic Energy Agency stated that the replacement was important for the safe operation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The station had been occupied by Russian forces at the beginning of the war.
Ukraine has reported to the agency that the radiation monitoring laboratories at the station have been destroyed and the instruments stolen or broken.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has indicated that Ukraine still has a long way to go to return the plant to normal.
