The City Council of Alcázar de San Juan has held the last plenary session of the year, corresponding to the month of December in which the publication of the consolidated General Urban Planning Plan has been approved and the municipal representatives have been designated for the constitution of the Foundation of the painter José Herreros Galán, for whom the mayor, Rosa Melchor, has been appointed as head, and as a substitute to the Councilor for Culture, Mariano Cuartero. The plenary session also rejected the motion of the political group Equo to prohibit the cutting of water supply to vulnerable people in Alcázar, since it has been considered that the city council already has a regulation that prevents these cases from occurring.
Regarding the launch of the José Herreros Museum Foundation, the mayor stated that there is no greater generosity than donating your work to the city so that future generations can enjoy it for their enjoyment. He claimed that he has been one of the most representative artists. Herreros has donated 100 works, engravings and furnishings for the creation of a Museum Foundation that has endowed 3,000 euros for its creation. The mayor wanted to thank what she has described as an invaluable legacy that will add to the heritage of Alcázar de San Juan. For the city council it is a pride to be a patron of the José Herreros Foundation, not only for having the painter’s work but because it also embodies the spirit of Alcazar, nonconformist, tenacious, self-taught and creative, with a great capacity for “overcoming that has made him great, leaving its mark on the history of art in our country, with that color so much his and the imprint of La Mancha roots in the geometry of its landscapes, full of humanity and feeling ”. The mayor added that Herreros always carried La Mancha around the world and did not forget his roots, he showed us the look of a nonconformist.
All political groups have agreed to point out the author’s generosity and his pictorial and human quality, pointing out that now it is up to the city to correspond to his legacy.
The Councilor for Culture, Mariano Cuartero, explained that thanks to the foundation it will be possible to open lines of research and promotion on the work of José Herreros, but it will also mean a song to love, to the fine arts and their knowledge, a showcase for the promotion of his work and La Mancha. He was born in 1928 and since then he had artistic concerns, and from very early on he had an interest in reflecting the lives of his countrymen, he added. He highlighted his puffs of color, his planes and counter planes with a strong cubist sense, and he referred to his encounters with life, his murals, his way of interpreting men and women. As part of the members that make up the foundation’s patronage, in addition to the city council, there are Antonio Moreno, emeritus professor of the Complutense University, José Luis Mata, professor of Language and Literature and the artist Aúreo Gómez.
On the other hand, the plenary rejected the motion of the Equo group to prohibit the cut off of the water supply to the vulnerable people of Alcázar de San Juan. A motion that was rejected because in the opinion of the municipal groups, this situation is foreseen in our city and there are already regulations that prevent the cutting of basic supplies for years, in addition to other social aid that was explained by the Councilor for Social Welfare, Patricia Benito .
Despite the fact that the mayor encouraged the Equo spokesperson to withdraw the motion, once the situation in Alcázar had been explained, Elisa Díaz insisted on maintaining it since she intended to raise the fact of insisting on water as a human right and considers that approving this A motion would be to advance this sensitivity to avoid the marketing of this asset, which is now being intervened by large companies once it is listed on the stock market.
The plenary session ended with the Christmas greetings from all the municipal political groups, a greeting that the mayor culminated by thanking the attitude of all the political groups, which in this difficult year have shown their ability to agree on issues they are urgent and serious. This has been demonstrated during the pandemic when, he highlighted, the unity of all in the fight against Covid-19. He also wanted to thank all the Alcazareños and Alcazareñas for their prudence and generosity when facing the pandemic situation, he has asked them to be responsible for these festivities, so that at the end of them we do not lack one more person; He has also asked for patience because there is less left to go and, if we all get there, it will be a social success for Alcázar.
