Approved: DPP to turn more subway seats so people sit sideways

According to the DPP, the seats will be rotated gradually as part of regular maintenance or for sets that are not currently running.

Transport company hl. City of Prague (DPP) will gradually turn the individual seats in subway trains on routes A and B so that passengers sit sideways to the direction of travel. Half of these seats should be turned, the other half will remain in the current arrangement in the direction of travel. This was announced by the chairman of the company’s supervisory board and deputy mayor for transport, Adam Scheinherr.

He came up with this idea two years ago. “Prague people sit like that, and I don’t do it any other way – I sit on a separate sofa opposite the two with my feet turned into the alley,” stated Scheinherr. DPP then tested the seats in twelve 81-71M sets.

This year’s poll, in which over 20,000 people took part, showed that passengers like the turn. “That’s why we will gradually start rotating the seats in all sets of lines A and B. They will always be opposite each other, one turned and one not, so that everyone can choose according to their preferences,” added Scheinherr.

According to the DPP, the seats will be rotated gradually as part of regular maintenance or for sets that are not currently running. The transport company has a total of 93 sets 81-71M, which run on lines A (41 sets) and B (52 sets).

According to DPP, single-seaters can only be turned in trains 81-71M. The seats cannot be turned in the M1 trains that run on line C.
