Approval of Pfizer and Moderna Vaccines Against Covid-19 by Mexican Association of Research Industries Pharmaceutical

The Mexican Association of Research Industries Pharmaceutical (Amif) stated that the New Molecules Committee (CMN) gave approval to vaccines against covid-19 Pfizer and Modern.

Same as now They wait for the time of legal registration by the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), which is 45 days.

In a conference, Cristobal Thompson, executive director of the group, recognized the efforts made by the health authority to approve the marketing of these formulas.

“When there is registration by Cofepris, individuals, distributors andPharmacy chains will be able to acquire these vaccines, to make them available to the public. I also recognize that the government has sufficient inventory of free vaccines for the population,” Thompson commented.

He stressed that The legal registration time is normally 45 days from the date of approval.n, shorter period than is normally the case because the vaccines already have an emergency use certificate.

This happens when President Andrés Manuel López Obrador highlighted the efficiency and agility of Cofepris in the marketing approval of these vaccinesin addition to noting that AstraZeneca was asked for more information about its vaccine.

“The health authority is the best there is, because it is in the hands of very efficient and honest people. Alejandro Svarch (president of Cofepris) is first class, and the entire team is with him. And they are professionals, honest, very human, they are not traffickers or businessmen,” said the president.

Gender perspective

Amiff presented the results of its study on health with a gender perspective, pointing out that 55 percent of women do not have access to social security institutionswhich directly impacts their economy and well-being.

Thompson commented that this percentage of women without social protection tends to spend more on medications; average spending on households run by women increased from 58 to 75 percent from 2000 to date.

“Households headed by women, They represent a quarter of Mexican householdsthat is why it is so important to promote their development with public policies that encourage their development,” he highlighted.

He pointed out that Female-led households are more likely to spend on healththan those headed by men, this is because in many cases the heads of families also care for older adults.

“97 percent of patients in the world are cared for by a woman; when someone gets sick at home, it is the woman who has to stop working and this represents a barrier in her professional development,” concluded the director.
