Appointment of new Actiris director under fire: got cab… (Brussels)

With the appointment of the new director of the Brussels employment service Actiris, not everything may have gone according to the book. Questions arise after Brussels’ French-language media outlet BX1 claims that its lead candidate, Cristina Amboldi, deputy chief of staff to Minister of Labor Bernard Clerfayt, had early access to the vacancy documents.

BX1 reported yesterday that Cristina Amboldi, in her position as Deputy Chief of Cabinet of Minister Clerfayt, had access to the first vacancy documents and would even have adapted them. This raises questions now that she is in pole position for the job as Actiris director. It can also have consequences for her appointment, if someone lodges an appeal with the Council of State.

Opposition party N-VA asked for an emergency debate in the Work Committee on Wednesday, but this was refused. Brussels MP Gilles Vertstraeten asks that the appointment be suspended due to possible insider fraud.

“The last thing we need at Actiris is a perception of bias and bad governance. Especially now in the midst of the economic revival, in which it plays a crucial role as an employment institution,” says Verstraeten. “I therefore call on the government to suspend the appointment of Mrs Amboldi, to investigate the matter in detail and to provide full transparency about the recruitment procedure,” concludes the N-VA member.

“We are not commenting. The procedure supported by talent.brussels is ongoing. The government will consider it tomorrow. Ms Amboldi has therefore not yet been appointed as general director,” Clerfayt’s cabinet said.
