The traditional festival of nature next Saturday in Linz has been cancelled. The reason is an appointment collision or a coordination error between the police and the magistrate.

Right next to the big festival of nature in the Volksgarten, the “Linz Pride” – i.e. the rainbow parade – would have taken place at the same time, with an expected 5,000 participants. Because the two organizers did not find a solution to the problem, the nature festival on Saturday was canceled.
City of Linz: “Communication problems”
The City of Linz’s magistrate is contrite. The case was not a feat of coordination and revealed a problem in communication between the city and the police. Because the rainbow parade is coordinated as a gathering by the police. The festival of nature as an event organized by the magistrate. And this is where the problem appears to be. The police have not informed the city of the planned route of the Pride, according to the magistrate.
A compromise could not be found
And so it became obvious last week what could no longer be changed: that both should take place at the Volksgarten – the large-scale demonstration for the rights of homosexuals, transgender and queer people and the festival of nature, which traditionally has an extensive children’s program. Unsolvable in terms of safety alone and a compromise is no longer feasible in the short term.

The city promises to improve, the police see no fault in themselves – they were informed early enough that the Pride was taking place. Just not where, the city says. The police deny this, citing emails from December. After all, the city wants to work on better communication in the future.
