NEW YORK — The National Puerto Rican Parade (NPRDP) is now accepting applications for its 2023 National Scholarship Program and will receive them until Friday March 15.

The program offers exceptional students of Puerto Rican roots a total of 100 scholarships of $2,000 each, for a total of $200,000.

According to the call, applicants must be high school graduates or full-time university students in their first, second or third year. Scholarship winners from previous years are eligible to reapply while they still meet the above criteria.

THESE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Have Puerto Rican roots (at least from one parent).
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or better, or the equivalent high school degree.
  • Be a high school senior or college freshman, ages 17 to 25.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year college (required for undergraduates).
  • Have a history of volunteer work or community service.
  • Participate in an interview with members of the Selection Committee.
  • Students who have won scholarships in previous years may apply again, as long as they meet the other requirements.

HOW CAN I FILL OUT THE APPLICATION

Students can visit this website to fill out your application or go to the button in the part bottom of this page.

Candidates must electronically submit the complete application and transcripts academics before Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:59 pm. Transcripts and recommendations can be uploaded directly to your application or sent to your teachers and/or school administrators to upload themselves.

Note: You cannot use artificial intelligence applications to write essays. Any evidence of such use will result in disqualification.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS MUST CONTAIN:

An application will be considered complete after receiving all of the information listed below. The application and letters of recommendation may be submitted in English or Spanish.

  • The complete application form.
  • Answers to two essay questions (500 words or less per question).
  • Your biography, including your Puerto Rican ancestry (500 words or less)
  • Two letters of recommendation (one of which must come from the place where the student does his or her volunteer work). They can be from teachers, professors, counselors, mentors, clergy, community leaders, etc. Letters should address the applicant’s community service, the length of the relationship with the candidate, and any specific contributions the applicant has made to the community.
  • Official academic transcripts and a photo.

To date, the NPRDP has awarded more than $1.6 million in scholarships to deserving Puerto Rican students committed to higher education.
