Krefeld/Moenchengladbach. Science complements practice: In the dual bachelor’s degree course in Applied Therapy Sciences (ATW), students can now also complete their professional training at the physiotherapy school of the kbs Academy for Health Professions in Mönchengladbach. In addition to partner companies such as the physiotherapy school at the Würselen hospital and the Präha health schools in Düsseldorf (physiotherapy and ergotherapy), the degree program in the healthcare department has gained another strong regional cooperation partner in kbs. After the first semester at the respective technical college, a total of 32 students were welcomed to the university for the summer semester.

The attendance days of the training-integrated course take place once a week during the lecture period at the university. On the remaining days of the week, the students learn in partner companies such as the kbs academy for health professions. “We are very pleased that, together with our cooperation partners, we can offer prospective physiotherapists and occupational therapists an attractive course of study in the region in order to reliably prepare them for the increasing demands in the health care of patients,” said Course coordinator Prof. Dr. Martin Alfuth.

The training to become a state-certified physiotherapist or occupational therapist is completed after the state examination at the end of the sixth semester. Building on the technical college education, students at the university are enabled to apply and further develop application-related content and methods from the fields of therapeutic sciences, health sciences and business administration. The course follows a scientific approach. After successful completion, the graduates achieve the academic degree “Bachelor of Science”. For already qualified physiotherapists and occupational therapists, the course can be completed alongside their professional activity (occupationally integrated).

Later areas of application for graduates are e.g. B. Clinics, private practices, rehabilitation facilities, healthcare companies, occupational health management, medical technology companies, sports, universities and research institutions.
