In 2023, 7,830 applications for recognition of a professional qualification acquired abroad were received in Hesse. This exceeded the previous year’s record of 6,890 applications. Compared to 2022, the number of applications in 2023 increased by 13.6 percent (plus 940 applications).
Women submitted the majority of applications (67.3 percent) in 2023, with 5,270 applications. More than two-thirds of applicants, 5,280 people, sought recognition in a medical health profession, with 2,140 people alone applying for recognition as a health and nursing professional. In addition, 1,900 applications were received for recognition as a nursing professional. In addition, 730 applications were submitted for recognition of an educational and social profession and 520 applications for recognition of a teaching profession. Most applicants had acquired their professional qualifications in Turkey (960), the Philippines (790) and India (760).
