Pekauman Village is one of the villages in the Madukara District, which, like many other tropical areas, has a high risk of the spread of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever.DBD). Dengue prevention is often poorly understood by local communities, so prevention efforts are less effective. In facing this challenge, health education interventions are important to reduce the number of dengue cases in the area. Thus UNNES students in a series of PKL SKM movement activities made health interventions to help reduce the number of dengue fever cases in Pekauman Village.
The GEMADEN (Dengue Mass Education Movement) program aims to increase public understanding of the importance of dengue fever prevention, increase public awareness of the importance of taking measures to prevent dengue fever, and encourage active community participation in the implementation of the 3M Plus program (Covering, Drainage, recycling and prevention).
The GEMADEN program in Pekauman Village includes community-based advocacy, training and outreach sessions. This activity includes:
1. Appeal to Community Leaders and Town Figures
Village leaders and community people got an understanding of the importance of the GEMADEN program which was done through the media policy brief. With the support of local people, it is easier for the community to get involved in dengue prevention activities.

2. Direct and Continuing Public Education

Direct education was done to the community in the form of representatives from each RT, the City Health Forum, workers, community health centers, and city officials. The community is trained on dengue prevention measures based on the concept of Integrated Pest Management.IPM) or Integrated Pest Management. With continued education, it is hoped that the public will become more aware and involved in keeping the environment free from mosquito breeding sites. Education is done in open forums using PPT media and also animated videos, which it is hoped in the future will be used as an educational medium for village communities on an ongoing basis.
After implementing GEMADEN, it is hoped that Pekauman Village can reduce the number of dengue fever cases through active involvement in the community, fostering community awareness to protect the surrounding environment, building capacity health workers who can continue their education in the future.

The animated video released to the public is an animated video titled “DHF Control with IPM: Effective Community Measures”. This video aims to provide the public with simple but effective guidance on how to control dengue fever using IPM principles. In this video, the public will be introduced to easy steps to manage the environment so that mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus do not breed.
The video begins with an explanation of the public concerns about vector control, which are mostly chemical based among the general public. Next, a control solution is provided through the use of IPM. Then, the video ends with an invitation to the community to protect the environment together and pledge to prevent the spread of dengue fever. The message reinforced is that prevention is a shared responsibility that can be implemented with simple but effective measures.
With GEMADEN and this animated video, it is hoped that the Pekauman Village community will become more responsible and proactive in preventing dengue fever.
