The information has been in contact with sources claiming that Apple’s alleged AR / VR headset will be able to scan the user’s iris in the eye, also known as the iris.
By scanning the iris of the eye, Apple’s next AR / VR headset could guarantee who is using the headset, something that could, for example, be used to verify payments via the headset. Meta’s new Meta Quest Pro headset also uses inward-facing cameras to capture eye movements and facial expressions, but these don’t seem, so far at least, to be powerful enough to scan users’ irises.
Additionally, Information writes that Apple’s VR / AR headset will be equipped with downward facing cameras that should be able to record the user’s movements with their legs. This is also something that Meta Quest Pro has the ability to do.
When we might see a VR / AR headset from Apple is unclear. In the past, there has been talk that Apple plans to show one in 2023 and that the first version could cost up to $ 3,000. Whether there is any substance to these rumors remains to be seen.
