Apple’s tracking technology “Find My Is Creepy” should be banned! – LSA Magazine

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney went completely off the deep end on his X profile (formerly Twitter) today when he said that the company’s “Find My” service on Apple is a super creepy surveillance technology that shouldn’t exist. Sweeney went on to explain that a few years ago, a kid stole a MacBook from his car. A few years later, Seeney checked Find My because the MacBook was still connected to his Apple ID, which showed him the location where the thief lived. It’s odd to say the least that Tim Seeney doesn’t mind being able to locate his device, and that he actually has nothing against a service whose main goal is to prevent device theft.

Tim Sweeney got into an argument with other users on x.com, telling them that it’s impossible to track the location of a device without tracking the person with the device and that people have a right to privacy. They argue that the discovery and recovery of a lost or stolen device should be subject to due legal process and it shouldn’t be possible to track such a device until a court orders it. Additionally, Sweeney said that he has disabled Find My on his devices and believes the feature is actually extremely dangerous. It would still be understandable if Sweeney complained about an AirTag that you can put in your wife’s purse to track whether or not she visits her lover, but complaining about being able to find a stolen MacBook is a bit over the top.
