Apple’s Removal of Wish Lists in iOS 17.2 Leaves Customers Disappointed and Searching for Alternatives

Apple removed a feature that has been little talked about when they launched iOS 17.2 and iPadOS 17.2

The wish lists were removed when Apple released iOS 17.2

The change in question was the ability to buy TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store app on both platforms, which also brought with it another change via a server update: wish lists were removed on iOS and iPad. That a function disappears is not surprising in itself, more surprising is that the customers were not notified of the change in advance and were able to save the content.

The problem applies to all those customers who had curated long wish lists over many years. One of the customers writes on Reddit that the plan was to shop a lot, but now that the list includes 400 movies is removed, they will no longer bother. Several of the customers who used the company’s wish lists recommend people to use Cheapcharts.info or etterboxd.com instead.

The + button does something else now

As MacRumors points out, in the latest tvOS, iOS and iPadOS versions, there is a + button, but it only saves content to a play-by-next list, and is not a permanently saved wishlist. The hope for the affected customers is that Apple adds a similar feature.

Remarkably, not all users are affected, as they have the option of opening the iTunes Store on the desired iOS device, “pressing” the hamburger menu at the top and viewing the wish list. “The people who created the lists on an Apple TV don’t seem to have any way to retrieve them,” adds MacRumors.

Now that it is Christmas, you must also be aware of this in connection with digital gift purchases:

You can’t give away apps, TV shows or movies on your Mac or PC. To give these items away, you must use your iPhone or iPad. You can’t give away individual songs on your iPhone or iPad. To give away a song, use a Mac or PC.
