Apple’s Plans for New iPad Pro and iPad Air Models in 2024

Apple plans to launch a new version of the iPad Pro with an OLED screen in 2024. This was indicated by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who published his predictions about the new iPads on the Medium platform on Sunday. According to Kuo, Apple will launch a 10.9-inch iPad Air and a new 12.9-inch iPad Air in 2024.

The 12.9-inch version will not get the Mini-LED used by the Pro but will have an anodized back layer. Kuo says there will be M3 models of the iPad Pro next year, both of which will replace Mini-LED with OLED and will use the LTPO back layer used by the iPhone 15 Pro.

Kuo also expects the regular 11th generation iPad and a new iPad mini to arrive during the second half of the year. Kuo notes that the return of employees to offices as well as the structural change in how users use the device for entertainment and productivity has led to a decline in demand for the tablet.

iPad shipments are expected to reach about 52-54 million units in 2024, a larger number than the 50 million in 2023, but still well below the 63 million iPads shipped in 2022, Kuo says.

Kuo’s thoughts on the iPad Pro are similar to what we heard in August from Mark Gurman, an Apple correspondent at Bloomberg. Gorman said in August that the tablets may also get a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad, making the tablet a more useful alternative to laptops. In October, Kuo suggested that the new iPads would arrive in the first quarter of 2024, and Gurman indicated that the launch would likely happen around March.
