There is advice that we often hear that promises to solve all our problems. In the case of smartphones, there is that popular recipe of placing the wet device in a handful of rice, so that the grains eliminate moisture from the object.
However, Apple recently commented on this practice and warned of the risks it brings. Then, the company took the opportunity to provide a really effective and simple solution for drying a cell phone, without damaging the item.
Remembering that charging an iPhone while there is liquid inside it can corrode the connector pins or cause it to stop working, causing various problems. Now, if one has a wireless charging unit, then one can use it without fear, but still, the product needs to be dried.
What to do if your iPhone or an accessory gets wet
First of all, you need to remain calm. After all, nervousness only prevents a person from thinking correctly in complicated situations. Then, take your iPhone and, if it is plugged in, unplug the cable and the other end of the power adapter. Do not turn it on again until all objects are dry.
Let’s see how to proceed correctly:
- Touch the device gently with the palm of your hand, keeping the connector facing down, to remove excess liquid.
- Keep the device in a dry place with plenty of air circulation.
- Wait at least 30 minutes and then try charging the device with a Lightning or USB-C cable.
- If a warning appears on the screen again, it means there is still liquid in the connector or under the cable pins.
- In this case, let the phone dry for another full day, remembering that all components may take up to 24 hours to become functional.
- If the smartphone is ok, but runs out of charge, disconnect the adapter cable and unplug it, then reconnect both.
Finally, the company also reveals what not to do in situations like this. Firstly, you should never use an external heat source to dry, which includes dryers and heaters of any model.
Furthermore, cotton swabs and other foreign objects should not be inserted into the connector hole and, of course, the cell phone should never be placed in rice, as the grains can cause serious damage to its structure.
