An Apple just confirmed a new feature for iOS that could help users more quickly share the location of their items. Using Apple’s location network, users can quickly share the location of their AirTags with other users—while keeping that sharing secure.
This new feature is available in some regions, as part of the new features in the beta version of iOS 18.2, and it allows users to quickly share the location of an object within the Find My network. This sharing can be done securely with other users, and access is highly controlled.
Called “Share Item Location,” this feature creates a link that users can share with third parties to access the real-time location of items on the network. Guests can use the link to access the location directly from Apple’s website.
All links can be shared for a maximum of seven days, although this limit is fully configurable per user.
Some air carriers may use this new feature, which it uses for users to find their luggage. Apple promises that it has reached agreements with 15 companies, including British Airways, Delta and Lufthansa. In this way, users can quickly choose to use this system to find their luggage in real time and from anywhere.
As mentioned before, this new feature can be found in iOS 18.2, which is currently in public beta form, and should finally be found in the final version of the system.
