Apple’s New MacBook Pro with M3 Processor: iFixit Teardown and Analysis

iFixit published a video in which they showed an initial disassembly of the new MacBook Pro with an M3 processor.

According to the video, practically nothing has changed in the laptops except the chip itself. More interesting in this parsing how Apple managed to ensure that the new black body of the device shows fewer fingerprints.

The company made the anodized surface of the lid more rough at the microscopic level. This allows it to diffuse more light and, as a result, appears darker than the Space Gray model.

The Space Gray case shows more fingerprints. The absence of etching results in a smoother surface for light photons to interact with.

It is because of the increased roughness of the lid that a matte effect is created.

And thanks to this feature, smudges spread less throughout the body, making fingerprints less noticeable than on a smooth, glossy finish. [MacRumors]
