According to recent reports from Bloomberg’s Gurman, Apple’s highly anticipated mixed-reality headset will feature an external power supply upon its release in 2023. The decision to offload the battery was made due to concerns about the device overheating and Apple’s desire to make the headset lightweight and comfortable for users. Ahead of WWDC 2023, Gurman has revealed more details about the wearable’s external battery. It will include a USB-C interface for data transfers and a new proprietary charging connector, similar to Apple’s power port. The power supply itself is about the size of an iPhone and can reportedly power the headset for up to two hours on a single charge. While this new release is highly anticipated, Gurman’s report reminds us that it is a first-generation product, coming in at a rumored $3,000 and with such a cumbersome power delivery method, so it may not be suitable for the average consumer.
