Apple’s Journey: From the First iPhone to the Vision Pro – A Look at Apple’s Smart Glasses

Apple has been thinking about the concept of smart glasses since the days of the first iPhone
This was revealed in a newly published patent filed by the company in 2007
The description of the device is surprisingly similar to the basic functionality of the Vision Pro

There’s no doubt that Apple has been working on its mixed reality headset called Vision Pro for quite some time. After all, speculations about “smart glasses from Apple” were floating around for quite a few years before the company from Cupertino presented them this year. Perfectionism, both in terms of products and software, is characteristic of Apple, and it is therefore not surprising that the company only comes to market with a product when it is really sure that everything will work as it should. But few could imagine that Apple has been dealing with this wearable technology for a significantly longer time than it might have seemed at first glance.

Apple has been thinking about the headset since 2007

A recently published patent has revealed how long Apple has actually been working on a smart headset. According to him, they started thinking about a similar concept in Cupertino already in 2007, i.e. around the time when the first iPhone came on the market. Although the patent does not describe an exact device like the Vision Pro, the device was supposed to be able to display movies and sports broadcasts, but not in the environment of your home, but in a very sophisticated virtual reality.

The description says that during the broadcasts you should feel exactly the same as in the theater, or in the real stadium in the case of sports broadcasts. The Vision Pro should be able to do a lot more things at launch, however, playback of audiovisual content will definitely not be missing. What is interesting, however, is that the patent also describes the reaction of the headset to the movements of your head, eyes and hands, according to which the image should then adapt in such a way as to draw you into the story as much as possible.

The biggest mystery, however, is the fact that although the patent application was filed in 2007, it was approved only these days. Why this happened, we can only speculate, however, from an overall point of view, it is very interesting how Apple engineers are able to think long ahead. The Apple Vision Pro will go on sale at the beginning of next year for a relatively high price, namely 3,499 dollars (approx. 93,000 crowns including VAT).
