“Before, Apple could sell its products in Indonesia because they had received the TKDN certificate. However, the validity period of the certificate had expired, so it had to be extended. The Minister of Industry said that the performance of Apple’s investment in Indonesia was still relatively small, which is only IDR 1.48 trillion compared to the large number of products from this large company from the United States in the domestic market.
In addition, he said, Apple has promised to increase investment performance up to IDR 1.71 trillion.
“Therefore, there is still a gap of around IDR 240 billion,” said the Minister of Industry.
He said that if the investment promise is realized, Apple will receive a TKDN value of 40 percent, so that the iPhone 16 cell phone and Apple products that use cellular networks can enter the Indonesian market.
“It’s all about the foundation equity and fair for investors who already have a high commitment to invest in Indonesia,” he said.
In addition, he explained, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 29 of 2017 regarding Provisions and Procedures for calculating the value of domestic components for cell phone, handheld computer and tablet computer products, TKDN calculation can be done using three schemes.
These schemes are making products at home (manufacturing), making applications at home, or developing innovations at home.

Before that, the latest product, the iPhone 16, which opened the official sale on September 20, 2024, could not enter Indonesia, because the smartphone produced by the leading technology company did not meet Apple to the TKDN of 40 percent.
The Ministry of Industry said that products that have a TKDN and a company’s profit weight (BMP) above 40 percent have the requirements to buy. Especially in obtaining goods and services by the government, BUMN, BUMD and the private sector using APBN/APBD or taking advantage of state-controlled resources.
