Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple has officially released the newest series, namely the iPhone 15, Tuesday (12/9/2023). The launch of this latest series was carried out by Apple CEO Tim Cook and his team at the ‘Wonderlust’ event, which was held from their headquarters in Cupertino, California, USA.
Who would have thought, before the launch, Apple would have to worry and worry that its newest product would not sell because of the new policies of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
President Xi Jinping’s government has established a new policy that prohibits Chinese civil servants from using iPhones in the work environment.
This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Even though it is not blocked nationally, this policy is predicted to have an impact on iPhone sales. Because China is one of the markets that contributes the most to Apple’s business.
Reuters reported that iPhone sales could drop by up to 10 million units due to the Chinese government’s actions. Erik W. Woodring, an analyst from Morgan Stanley, estimates that Apple’s revenue could fall 4 percent due to the ban in China. Meanwhile, Apple’s profits could decline by 3 percent.
Apple shares fell 6.4 percent in the last two days, causing the iPhone and Macbook maker’s market capitalization to shrink by US$ 190 billion. Investors flocked to sell Apple shares after hearing news of a ban on Chinese government employees from using iPhones.
“China is a determining factor in Apple’s success, but Apple is also an important element of China’s economy. Although there is potential for Apple and China to separate in a multi-polar world, we do not believe this news can make the worst case scenario happen,” said Woodring.
Huawei Launches iPhone Killer 5G Cellphone
In the midst of this chaos, Chinese giant Huawei has just launched the Mate 60 Pro which supports 5G networks. This cellphone also shocked the smartphone industry and made the Joe Biden government react.
This is the first 5G cellphone released by Huawei after receiving trade sanctions from the US. Since 2019, the US has banned the export of advanced technology to Huawei to produce 5G cellphones. US authorities accused Huawei of secretly inserting US-made chip technology to make the Mate 60 Pro which supports 5th generation internet networks.
Since its silent launch last week, Huawei has not released the specifications of the Mate 60 Pro’s innards. The only explanation Huawei has given is that the new chip in the Mate 60 Pro means it can be used to make satellite phone calls.
The Huawei Mate 60 Pro is apparently equipped with a Kirin 9000 chip made by the Chinese semiconductor company, namely Semiconductor Manufacturing International (SMIC).
According to TechInsights, quoted by Reuters, the Kirin 9000 is the most advanced chip made by SMIC and is built using 7nm (nano meter) technology.
Those in China who already own the Mate 60 Pro also provide information about Huawei’s new cellphone via social media. According to users, the Mate 60 Pro has download speeds equivalent to the most premium 5G cellphones.
The US government accused SMIC of violating trade sanctions regulations. Until now, investigations into Huawei and SMIC are still being carried out by the South Korean giants and the US to prove the violations committed.
