In total, Apple has invested $ 4.7 billion in green bonds to produce clean electricity. In a press release, the company says today that in 2020 it financed seventeen projects that will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 921,000 tonnes per year. The projects will together generate 1.2 gigawatts of renewable energy. In her press release, Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives, says:
“Apple is passionate about protecting the planet with solutions that support the communities in which we operate. We all have a responsibility to do everything in our power to combat climate change, and our $ 4.7 billion investment in revenue from the sale of green bonds is a major driver of our efforts. In the end, clean energy is a good deal. ”
Among the various projects that Apple has financed, we have one that is not too far away. In the vicinity of the Danish city of Esbjerg, we now find two wind turbines that are 200 meters high that will produce 62 GWh per year, which is enough to provide electricity to almost 20,000 households.
