The Apple CarPlay system is no longer just a tool to facilitate the use of iPhones while driving. Rather, CarPlay will provide a futuristic and comfortable experience as a system integrated with the car and customized for each brand.
Apple revealed what the new system will look like in Aston Martin and Porsche cars, where drivers can access all applications, contacts and other details through the screens of the entertainment system in their car. The new CarPlay will also allow drivers to control basic in-car functions such as audio, air conditioning and ambient lighting, all of which can be integrated into iPhone-specific modes such as Relax, Warm Up and Refresh.
Apple’s intelligent voice assistant Siri can be used to control a variety of functions using voice commands. Apple promised that the new system will be able to take data directly from the car, including information from the speedometer, battery percentage and fuel tank, and the goal is to enable personalization of drivers’ experience while maintaining their privacy where required.
The designs shown are not completely final, but they display some interesting technologies. In the Aston Martin on display, CarPlay reaches the instrument panel directly in front of the driver in addition to the central entertainment system screen. While Porsche does not allow changing the instrument panel as it is part of the visual identity of Porsche cars, CarPlay appears elegantly. On the center screen and the front passenger screen.
While there’s no set date for when dedicated CarPlay will be introduced, Aston Martin has promised that its next infotainment system, which will launch in 2024, will be compatible with it.
