Apple’s Find My app allows users to share the location of their lost items with others.
Users can now securely share the location link of their AirTag or Find My network device with others, and soon they will be able to share it with airlines.
Apple has launched Share Item Location, a new feature in iOS that helps users find and locate lost items by easily and securely sharing the location of an AirTag or Find My accessory network with others, like a person is available today in most regions around the world as part of iOS 18.2 Public Beta, and will be available to everyone as an update free software for iPhone Xs and further, Find My is also built with privacy and security at heart. It stops sharing its location as soon as the user can and things are back to the same place. And owners can stop sharing their space at any time. It also expires automatically after 7 days.
“Find My is an essential tool for users around the world who want to find and find their things,” said Eddy Cue, senior vice president of Apple Services to empower users who ‘ go by providing location information which is particularly useful when bags are lost or lost. Users can create a Share Item Location link in the Find My app on their iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Those who receive the link can then view a website that shows the item’s location on an interactive map. And the website will automatically update when a new location is confirmed. along with showing the last updated time as well
In the coming months More than 15 airlines serving millions of passengers worldwide, including Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling will start accepting Find My items as part of their customer service processes to help by being detect delayed or misdirected bags. And there will be more and more airlines that will support this feature in the future.
Apple works directly with airline partners to provide private and secure Share Item Location capabilities by leveraging the hundreds of thousands of Apple devices already in use by airlines. The connection will be limited to only a few people. And recipients of the link must verify their identity before they can view the link through their Apple account or partner email address.
“We worked closely with Apple to integrate the Share Item Location feature into our baggage claim process. We are very excited to make this feature available to customers soon,” said David Kinzelman, United Airlines Chief Customer Officer “We know that many of our customers travel with AirTag in their bag already loaded under the machine And this feature will make it easier for travelers to share the location of their bags with us securely. This helps our customer service agents to be more efficient while giving passengers more peace of mind. We plan to receive Find My location data at selected airports, with the aim of rolling out the service system-wide by early 2025.”

This innovative solution was developed by Apple in collaboration with Delta Air Lines and it allows us to track baggage more efficiently and effectively.”
