JawaPos.com – It has been confirmed that the Dark Sky application, which Apple acquired in March 2020, has been discontinued. The shutdown of this weather forecast application adds to the list of applications acquired by Apple to supplement its functionality, but it didn’t last long.
Users who still have the app installed on their iOS device will no longer be able to use its features. Meanwhile, its application programming interface (API) will be decommissioned in the future.
As mentioned by the official site, the Dark Sky application will be completely removed as of March 31, 2023. Although the news seems disappointing, there is still hope for users who like Dark Sky features.
Apple says the app data is already available in the Weather app. This app is accessible in the App Store for device users running iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS 13 Ventura.
In the meantime, a severe weather warning is available. Some aspects, such as hourly precipitation forecasts and air quality, are not accessible to everyone.
FYI, Apple acquired Dark Sky in March 2020 and has since integrated many of the app’s features into the Weather app that comes pre-installed on iPhone, iPad and Mac. Earlier this month, Apple shared a support document with Learn how Dark Sky users can use the Weather app, which now offers hyperlocal forecasts.
To use the Dark Sky feature in the Weather app, your device must be updated to iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or macOS Ventura. Some features are currently only available in select countries, as described in a separate Apple support document.
Apple will also shut down the Dark Sky API for third-party weather apps on March 31 and introduce its own WeatherKit API as a replacement.
