One of the big news launched by Apple this year is its automatic incident detection system. Devices such as the iPhone 14 and the Cupertino company’s latest generation smartwatches detect bumps and falls and automatically call emergency services.
This feature is causing major headaches in the emergency centers of some of the America’s Best Ski Destinations, as was the case in Colorado, where calls for help have skyrocketed in the counties of Grand, Eagle, Pitkin, Routt and Summitas detailed The Colorado sun.
Although this was the case throughout December, they were only received over the Christmas weekend 71 automated calls from Apple users. The problem is that when they are enjoying the ski slopes they make sudden movements which are interpreted as road accidents by their devices.
Those responsible for these rescues denounce that, after the appropriate checks, it was ascertained that none of the warnings corresponded to a real accident, but that this led to a waste of resources and time. They criticize that because calls are answered in order of arrival, a false alert from Apple devices could delay response to a real emergency. “We are diverting essential resources“, are complaining.
