A few days ago, during its Spring Loaded event, Apple finally lifted the veil on its new iPad Pro. And as rumors had suggested, the Cupertino company has equipped these new tablets with the M1 chip, which is also used by the latest Macs. This is an important selling point, since thanks to the use of this chip, the new iPad Pro of 2021 gain enormously in performance.
According to Apple’s explanations: “The 8-core CPU integrates the world’s fastest processor cores for a low power consumption chip, delivering performance up to 50% faster than the A12Z Bionic chip. The 8-core GPU goes even further by delivering graphics performance up to 40% faster. The combination of CPU and graphics performance of the iPad Pro reinforces its position as the fastest device in its class. ” We can therefore expect these new iPad Pros to sell well.
According to a new rumor, Apple, for its part, hopes to sell five million units this year. This is indicated in an article by MacRumours, which relays information that would have been published by the DigiTimes site. And in order to anticipate this strong demand, the firm would have asked its supplier to produce more M1 chips.
M1 chip producer set to increase production
This supplier would have expected a rate of 120,000 chip wafers per month. But following the launch of new iPad Pro, this supplier now plans to produce between 140,000 and 150,000 chip wafers per month between the second and the last quarter of 2021.
This information should nevertheless be considered with caution since it is unofficial information. But the new iPad Pros are, of course, very interesting models.
In addition to using the same chip as the latest Macs, the 12.9-inch model also benefits from a new technology: the Liquid Retina XDR display. The latter, as Apple explains, “Brings the incredible immersive performance of Pro Display XDR to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.” Incorporating innovative mini-LED technology, which distributes over 10,000 LEDs across the back of the display, the Liquid Retina XDR display delivers up to 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness, peaking at 1,600 nits and 1,000,000: 1 contrast to enhance creative workflows. “
In addition to Apple launching its new iPad Pro by offering many very convincing arguments, it should be noted that these products will arrive on the market at a time when there is an increase in demand, due to the massive use of teleworking.
According to IDC data, in 2020 tablet shipments increased by 13.6%, with very strong growth in the last quarter. “The global tablet market had an exceptional fourth quarter (4Q20) with 19.5% year-over-year growth and shipments totaling 52.2 million units, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Personal Computing Device Tracker. Impacted by the pandemic, the tablet market has reached shipping levels not seen since the fourth quarter of 2017 when the total was 49.9 million ”, indicated the IDC report.
