Apple would consider selling the iPhone by subscription

We may soon be able to get an iPhone by subscription. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is studying the establishment of a subscription system for some of its devices. An initiative that would allow the Cupertino company to increase its income but also to facilitate access to the latest models for users.

Rent devices from Apple

In recent years, the Apple brand has set up various services available as a subscription. We can cite among others iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV Plus or the Apple One offer grouping together several services at the same time. In general, these services have been well received by users and are great sources of revenue for the brand.

To go even further, the firm could soon extend these subscriptions to hardware. This applies not only to iPhones, but also to other products like iPads. It could also be that one day we discover a way to obtain both hardware and other services.

Nevertheless, we will have to wait a little longer before seeing this offer arrive on the market. Still according to the journalist of Bloombergthe subscription iPhone should not see the light of day until the end of the year 2022 or the beginning of the year 2023.

Benefits for users

Of course, the implementation of such an offer would allow the Californian giant to obtain more customers and thus generate more income. The offer will not be the same as the iPhone upgrade program currently available in the United States. The latter allows US customers to change their iPhone every year in return for a monthly surplus.

The new offer is instead to pay a fixed monthly subscription to rent the iPhone. Thus, the device will normally have to be returned after the subscription in question has expired. The proposed price will then be different from the price of a device divided into 12 or 24 monthly payments.

iPhone SE 3

This brings different benefits for the users. First of all, there is the possibility of changing terminals with each new version. We can thus be sure to always have the latest iPhone in hand. In addition, such a mode of consumption would avoid paying huge sums with each purchase of an iPhone. Indeed, as Apple practically only sells high-end smartphones, with the exception of the iPhone SE, prices often exceed €1,000. A monthly subscription would be much easier to pay for.

We do not yet know the possible terms of the subscription for the iPhone. It may also be that, like other services of the brand, it will only be released in the first place across the Atlantic. European apple fans would then have to be very patient before they can enjoy it.
