The tech giant, which stopped using Intel chips in Mac computers, is now aiming to use its screens on mobile devices.
Apple Inc. plans to start using its custom displays in mobile devices by 2024 at the earliest, to reduce reliance on commercial partners like Samsung and LG and to source more intensive in-house components for manufacturing.
According to information obtained from sources familiar with the matter, Apple aims to start this process by the end of next year by replacing the screen of the more expensive Apple Watch product.
This step is part of the company’s attempt to gain more control over the design and features of its products and to use in-house components.
LG Display shares fell 4%.

Now it plans to do the same with the wireless components of its iPhones. Shares of LG Display fell as much as 4.1% after Bloomberg news on the matter was released.
Trading in Seoul, Samsung Electronics Co. shares also gave back most of their daily gains.
