Earlier this month came the verdict in the lawsuit between Apple and Epic Games. However, the dispute between the two parties is far from over, and right now it seems very unlikely that Fortnite will reappear on iOS in the near future.
Epic boss Tim Sweeney took over Twitter Wednesday to announce that the popular battle royale game is blacklisted from the iOS ecosystem. Sweeney went on to attack Apple, which he believes has lied both in public and in court.
– Apple lied. Apple spent a year telling the world, the court and the press that they would “welcome Epic back to the App Store if they agreed to follow the same rules as everyone else.” Epic has agreed, and now Apple has changed its mind in another case of abuse of power.
– Can take up to five years
Sweeney also posted emails between him and Apple, asking the Epic boss to regain developer access to Fortnite on iOS and Mac. He points out that Epic has paid the compensation amount of 30 million kroner, and promises to behave nicely in the future.
In its negative answer, however, Apple refers to the outcome of the lawsuit. The judge ruled that Epic was in breach of contract, and consequently Apple has no plans to rely on the creator of Fortnite.
– Apple informed Epic that Fortnite has been blacklisted from the Apple ecosystem until the case has been through all the appeal bodies, which can take as much as five years.
Exactly how accurate that estimate is, of course, is difficult to say. But at least it sounds like Apple users shouldn’t expect to play Fortnite on their phones or tablets for a while.
