Jealousy between Android users and iOS she is infamous. Ardent supporters of either system are convinced of their truth and nothing convinces them otherwise. Every negative news about a competitor is then literally water on the mill counterpart. Now it seems that Android fans will be riding at least for a while. Phones with this system seem to be beating iPhones from Apple’s workshop at download speeds on the 5th generation network.
At least that’s what Opensignal says, which measured the download speed on a sample of the 25 fastest 5G phones on the US network. From this survey, it is clear that although the iPhones saw a 2.3-fold increase in speed compared to their 4G siblings, this is only enough for the bottom ranks compared to Android competitors.
The whole survey is dominated by Samsung and its flagship model Galaxy S21 5G. Koreans even have 15 notches in the whole ranking and are therefore very abundant. Second and third place belong to TCL Revvl 5G and OnePlus 8T +, respectively. Samsung had 56 Mbit / s in first place, TCL in second place with a result of 49.8 Mbit / s and OnePlus is in close contact with 49.3 Mbit / s.
But where is the iPhone? You would look in vain for the first 25 phones. The iPhone 12 achieved the best result with a speed of 36.9 Mbit / s and is right behind it iPhone 12 Pro Max with a speed of 36.2 Mbit / s and iPhone 12 mini with 32.9 Mbit / s. The increase in download speeds between 4G and 5G seems to be due to the supplier’s choice – 4G modems were supplied to Apple by Intel, while 5G was taken care of by Qualcomm.

But why does the iPhone lag so far behind its competition? Ian Fogg of Opensignal, who commissioned the research, believes little experience on Apple’s fault is to blame. While such a Samsung already works with the 3rd generation of phones supporting 5G, Apple has plunged into these waters for the first time. It is therefore likely that, as experience grows, Apple will catch up with its competitors over time.
