Apple will make AirPods Pro 2 in Vietnam; production will start in july

Apple will begin mass production of its new wireless earphones, AirPods Pro 2, next July at its factories in Vietnam instead of in Chinese operations centers, where these devices are usually made.

The company introduced the first generation of AirPods Pro, with active noise cancellation and adaptive equalization, in October 2019 and is now preparing a second version of the product.

According to the information that the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has been able to access, which he has shared through Twitter, the American manufacturer plans to take the production of this product, one of the brand’s best sellers, out of China.

Thus, it will start mass-producing the headphones in Vietnam, as it has a “relatively simple supply chain” and a “better production environment” compared to most countries outside of China.

It is very difficult to duplicate the successful experience of AirPods Pro 2 in other products or countries in the short term. New Product Development (NPI) is still in China, which means it’s not easy to set up a full production site outside of China,” the analyst added in a posting thread.

Kuo has announced this change in Apple’s roadmap days after The Wall Street Journal published that India and Vietnam, countries that already host a small part of its world production, were being studied by the company as alternatives to China.

According to analysts questioned by this means, more than 90 percent of Apple products, such as iPhones, iPads and MacBooks, are manufactured in China by subcontractors.

This dependence on the Asian country “is a potential risk due to the authoritarian communist government in Beijing and its clashes with the United States,” can be read in an article published by this newspaper last Saturday.

For his part, Kuo has assured that “for the Chinese assemblers of the AirPods series, Luxshare ICT and Goertek, establishing facilities in Vietnam instead of India can also reduce possible geopolitical risks.”

Finally, the analyst has come forward to comment that the charging case of the new generation of wireless headphones will continue to be compatible with the Lightning port instead of USB-C.

In this sense, it goes without saying that Apple is working on future models of its iPhone phone with this type of port, which will be accompanied by an adapter to continue using accessories with the brand’s own connector.
