Apple will limit AirDrop functionality

The AirDrop option, which allows you to wirelessly send files between connected devices, will be time-limited.

Currently, your AirDrop settings offer you three choices: don’t receive files via AirDrop, receive files from contacts, or receive files from everyone.

It is the latter option, subject to some abuses, which will soon be changed. iOS 16.1.1 and iOS 16.2 beta will now limit receiving to 10 minutes. This should avoid receiving files from strangers, which can happen especially in public transport, when the smart ones enjoy sharing photos or memes with all users who have not correctly configured AirDrop.

After this 10-minute period, AirDrop will automatically revert to “contacts” mode. This decision, born due to some overflows in China (where users took the opportunity to send anti-government files), will soon be distributed globally to all users.
