Apple Watch Ultra: Rumors Suggest Delayed Release for 3rd Generation in 2025

The Cupertino giant presented the 2nd generation of its Apple Watch Ultra last September during the traditional September event. However, following the predictions made by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, we now have new rumors pointing to the replacement’s arrival only in 2025.

Remembering Kuo’s words, at the moment there is no evidence of the development of a third generation of this more robust model focused on outdoor activities. More recently, however, new voices have joined in, pointing to a later renewal of this very mature model.

2nd generation of Apple Watch Ultra arrived in September 2023

It is important to note that the first generation arrived in September 2022 with several noteworthy features and a notable evolution compared to the Apple Watch of the time. Features such as a 49 mm titanium case, extended autonomy, specific functions for athletes, new bracelets and the product’s robustness made it stand out.

More recently, in September 2023 we discovered the second generation of this product with somewhat marginal improvements compared to the first generation. That said, we could initially consider a new launch in September 2024, but apparently we will have to wait a little longer.

Extended renewal cycle for the most powerful Apple Watch

Screen: 1.92-inch OLED

Autonomy: Up to 36 hours in normal use; up to 60 hours in low power mode

GPS: Yes, dual frequency

Connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE, NFC

Functions: Water resistance of up to 100 meters, IP6X4 dust resistance, action button for quick access to functions, compass, depth indicator for scuba diving, accident and fall detection

All over the social network X (formerly Twitter), reports of an extended renewal cycle for this model have multiplied. In contrast to conventional Apple Watches, which should continue to be updated every year with new models.

The measure, neither confirmed nor denied by Apple, is related to the need to effectively deliver added value in the Ultra models. In other words, bringing effective innovations and improvements to this best smart watch.

3rd generation of Apple Watch Ultra may only arrive in 2025

Evoking Kuo’s words, there is no internal evidence, the analyst states that if development does not start by the end of the year, it is practically certain that in 2024 we will not have a third generation. Given the above, Apple should take its time to ensure that a next generation will effectively have solid improvements compared to current solutions on the market.

In another vein, the same analyst also states that without a new iteration of the Ultra, global sales of the most advanced model will suffer a drop of between 20 and 30%. Furthermore, they could also suffer a drop of 10% year on year.

Therefore, the new rumors point out that, although the most immediate consequences are not the most advantageous for Apple, in the medium / long term this wait will have an effect. In other words, the company will not necessarily have to renew the product without having something concrete to add to it.

However, the current models, 1st and 2nd generation, will remain perfectly current and capable of responding to market needs. The best of everything? We may even find some promotions on the models in question.
