Apple could give users the ability to pair their Apple Watch with different devices. An iPhone, but also an iPad or a Mac could serve as the basis for pairing the connected watch.
As part of the new watchOS 10 update, the Cupertino company is about to change the pairing from an Apple Watch to an iPhone. Indeed, according to the leaker @analyst941, Apple plans to change the pairing process. This means that an Apple Watch will no longer be tied to a single iPhone, but can be synced with multiple iPhones, iPads and Macs.
A major change in philosophy
Currently, an Apple Watch can only be paired with one iPhone. There is no other way to pair or sync Apple Watch with other devices in its ecosystem. It is of course possible to make your Apple Watch interact with other Apple devices, but for very specific functionalities: validate payments with Apple Pay or even unlock your mac. But that’s about all.
Currently, we have no information on how. iCloud syncing should be at the heart of this system, much like how AirPods work between devices. Will Apple also take the opportunity to announce the configuration of an Apple Watch without an iPhone? Answer in the next few weeks.
