Apple Watch app should help patients with Parkinson’s

A San Francisco startup has received FDA approval from the US food and drug watchdog permission to use the Apple Watch to identify vibrations and other symptoms in patients with Parkinson’s disease.

If a patient now visits the doctor, it is only at that moment that it is possible to see how the patient moves. While Parkinson’s symptoms can vary greatly throughout the day. The Rune Labs app can help collect data throughout the day via the motion sensors in the watch. This is combined with other data, such as from a brain implant.

Apple itself is also working on the possibility of using the Apple Watch to collect data for Parkinson’s patients, but for the time being this data is only used in general research.
