Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Apple’s new smart device, which is said to have the potential to be the “iPhone of the future,” will be launched on February 2, 2024. Those interested in the smart glasses product, called Apple Vision Pro, can start pre-ordering on January 19, 2024.
Acceptance of orders for Vision Pro pre-orders opens at 17.00 United States time.
Apple has announced that the Vision Pro is priced at US$ 3,500 (Rp. 54 million) per unit. The first product was released with a storage capacity of 256 GB.
Prospective users can also order Vision Pro with special lenses, just like prescription glasses, for an additional cost of US$ 149 (Rp. 2.3 million).
Vision Pro was first introduced by Apple in early 2023 at an event for software developers. This device is seen as Apple’s attempt to compete with a similar product made by Meta, namely the Quest.
“Era spatial computing [komputer ruang] has arrived,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a press release announcing the Vision Pro’s release schedule.
Vision Pro uses the same chip as a computer made by Apple, namely the Apple M2. This product is Apple’s first new product category since they released the Apple Watch in 2015.
Analysts estimate that Vision Pro will not have a significant impact on Apple’s revenue. CNBC International, citing UBS, estimates that Vision Pro will only add US$ 1.4 billion (Rp. 21.71 trillion) in revenue to Apple.
Apple is not the first company to release a virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) device. VR/AR devices have become a new trend along with the “metaverse.” However, the metaverse trend in the world of technology is now fading, replaced by the trend of artificial intelligence or AI.
Vision Pro is equipped with a special operating system made by Apple called VisionOS. Users can control Vision Pro operations with their eyes, hand movements and voice.
Apple states that Vision Pro can work with various popular software and applications including Microsoft Office and Slack.
This device also offers new experiences in enjoying video content and playing video games. Apple TV content, for example, can be viewed on a virtual screen “that feels as wide as 100 feet (30.4 meters).”
