Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s XR headset can also be used as a radiology tool

A study from the University of California, San Diego describes the use of theApple Vision Pro in healthcare, specifically comparing its diagnostic performance to traditional desktop configurations. Radiologists used the Apple Vision Pro headset with the app Visage Ease VP to review 100 diverticulitis exams and then compared their performance to that of a desktop computer. The results revealed no significant difference in diagnostic performance between the two methods, suggesting that the Vision Pro’s display is fully adequate for high-resolution medical imaging.

The same study also highlighted benefits specific to the Apple Vision Pro, such as enhanced 3D viewing and general ergonomics achieved through eye and hand tracking features. The researchers conclude that next-generation VR/AR headsets, such as the Apple Vision Pro, could be useful for various radiological applications, including preoperative planning and intraoperative guidance. The study also mentions previous research concerning the use of virtual reality in medical imaging, such as the use of eye tracking for image annotation or even virtual reading rooms for more efficient diagnosis.
