Apple Unveils Revolutionary Mixed Reality Glasses at WWDC 2023, But Criticism Arises Over High Price Tag

06.06.2023

Apple unveiled its latest glasses that combine augmented and virtual reality in a way that does not separate the user from his surrounding reality, as was the case before. But criticism was directed at the price at which the new glasses were launched. Apple also released updates for a number of its products

Inc revealed Apple The American giant on Monday unveiled its most ambitious, most important and advanced new product in years, the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality glasses.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has described the virtual reality and augmented reality glasses as a “revolutionary product” that he says will change how users interact with technology, with each other and with the world around them.

The highly anticipated announcement of the glasses came at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where it also showcased a long list of new features and updates for some of its most used products, according to CNN.

Glasses that do not separate you from reality

At first glance, the new Apple Vision Pro looks like a pair of ski goggles, but allows the wearer to superimpose virtual images on live video from the real world.

Cook — who has been talking about the potential of augmented reality for years — described the headset as “the first product you look through, not into.” According to Apple, once the user wears the glasses, he can see the apps displayed directly in front of him and can interact with them through his hand gestures.

During the event, the company showcased a range of unique experiences with the new product, including medical, entertainment, business and other applications. Disney CEO Bob Iger also joined the Apple conference to discuss how his company is creating content for the new Vision Pro headset.

And unlike other headsets, the new mixed reality headset will display its users’ eyes, so “you’re never isolated from the people around you, you can see them and they can see you and look into your eyes,” said Alan Day, Apple’s vice president of Human Interface Products.

High price in an unfavorable market!

The specialized technical site “Engadget” indicates that the new product faces a number of challenges. For example, Apple is diving into an unstable market full of other technology companies that have tried and largely failed to find a basic traction force for their devices of this type.

Also, Apple set a price for the new glasses, which some consider exaggerated, which is $ 3499, at a time when economic uncertainty prevails over the levels of sale of this product.

While many aspects of the technical conference were expected to focus already on virtual reality and augmented reality technologies, it was also strange that Apple did not directly talk about how to keep up with the current obsession of Silicon Valley. with artificial intelligence.

In recent months, most of Apple’s major competitors have made ambitious plans for how they will merge artificial intelligence Generative GBT in their products after the huge success of GPT Chat. The Apple conference was a natural opportunity for the company to do the same. Instead, the company talked about artificial intelligence in a more subtle way.

For example, Apple announced an update to its AutoCorrect software, using machine learning and language models, for better text accuracy up to “sentence-level autocorrect” level, and Apple also said it would expand its text production capabilities. Predictive.

“When it comes to speeding up your typing, predictive text really helps you quickly add or change a word,” Craig Federighi, Vice President of Software Engineering, said during the conference. “Now you’ll get word predictions or suggestions as you type.”

Disclosure of the 15-inch MacBook Air

The first hardware product unveiled at the conference was the 15-inch MacBook Air with Apple’s custom M2 processor. The company said that the new MacBook Air is the world’s thinnest laptop, measuring just 11.5 mm. It also weighs only 3.3 lbs.

The new MacBook Air comes with up to 18 hours of battery life, much faster performance than MacBook Airs powered by Intel and a six-speaker sound system.

The device starts at $1,299 and $1,199 for education purposes. Meanwhile, the older 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 processor is down to $999.

In addition to the latest MacBook Air, Apple also introduced the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips as updates to its Mac Studio. This way developers can create new applications at breakneck speed, with performance up to 25 times faster than the M1 Max

Apple also revealed a slew of new updates coming to its iOS 17 phone later this year, including new tools to make calling and messaging others more personalized. The company also released software updates for the iPad, Watch, and AirPods.
