Apple Unveils New Devices for People with Disabilities

Apple makes a tool to detect doors for people with disabilities.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Apple introduced a new tool to help people with visual impairments. It is part of a suite of accessibility tools that help people with disabilities.

The door detecting device will use the sensor in iPhone or iPad to help those with vision problems find their way when they arrive at a new location. Later, the tool will be available for iPhone and iPad Pro users.

It will be used alongside the device’s camera to warn people about doors and describe their attributes so users know how to open them. The door detector will also read signs and symbols around the user and provide further information such as building or office numbers.

Reported Metro, Wednesday (05/18/2022), Apple said the feature will come to the Pro or Pro Max models of the iPhone 12 or 13 and later versions of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. In addition, Apple is also adding new accessibility tools for Apple A watch that allows people with physical and motor disabilities to control their watch using voice commands.

Going forward, Apple will introduce live captions on iPhone, iPad, and Mac for deaf users. This will allow them to see live captions on any audio content, whether across video calls or content on streaming services or social media.

A number of other features are also confirmed for later this year, including a friend controller feature that will allow users to ask a friend or caregiver to help them play the game by letting players combine two controllers to drive input for one player.
