Apple TV + only accounts for 3% in streaming

Apple’s service, Apple TV + celebrates its second anniversary on November 1, and yet, 24 months after its launch, it is still struggling to find its audience. Despite the success of several of its programs like Ted Lasso, Apple’s streaming platform fails to convince.

Last January, JustWatch analyzed the streaming market in the United States and Apple TV + was acting like an ugly duckling. With 3% of the market share, Apple’s platform seemed ridiculous in the face of the giants Netflix, Prime Video or Disney +, while the latter was launched substantially at the same time as Apple TV +. According to many experts, the lack of public on the Cupertino platform is explained by a much leaner catalog than elsewhere. On this point the parallel with Disney + is striking.

As summer arrives, JustWatch has just published a new report on the market share held by the Cupertino company in the world of streaming. And unfortunately for Apple, the numbers are no better. The organization still expects 3% in the United States for the Apple platform.

Netflix still far ahead

In the rest of the ranking, it is Netflix which logically dominates the debates, with 28% of the shares. If the platform has been in difficulty in recent years, it still keeps one step ahead of Amazon Prime Video, its first rival (20%).
On the third step of the podium is Disney + (18%), with a catalog of the most extensive, the platform of the animation studio had made a thunderous start at its launch and it seems to continue in this direction. With new unpublished series like Loki, she manages to retain her audience and make it grow day by day. Disney + is the only platform that managed to gain market share in the first half of the year.

For its part, Apple TV + experienced a slight drop from January to February, and seems to have reached a certain level of stability since. It will be interesting to see here the numbers for the month of September improve for the platform, as the new season of the long-awaited series Ted Lasso must go out at the start of the school year.
